Description

Certified secondary teacher with knowledge of content and experience in building relationships with students. The teacher shall understand and apply the Common Core State Standards and best practice strategies to meet the academic, developmental, and social-emotional needs of students.

Responsibilities
  1. Shall provide and utilize instructional plans, strategies, methods, materials, and techniques that best meet the needs of individual students.
  2. Shall provide the leadership and direction of classroom aides working with students.
  3. Shall be responsible for the maintenance, disciplinary, and instructional activities in the classroom, in transit, and in other school settings where no other professional is in charge.
  4. In-depth understanding of high school students.
  5. Shall meet with parents at scheduled conferences or any other times that is necessary.
  6. Able to work as part of a team.
  7. To keep all student, parent, and staff information confidential.
  8. Keep a positive attitude in working with students, parents, other staff members, and community
    members.
  9. Demonstrate competency in technology.
  10. Familiar with Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS)
  11. To ensure a safe environment for students at all times.

Other Skills:

  1. To maintain daily lesson plans.
  2. Other duties as requested by the supervisor.
  3. Coaching positions may be available.
  4. Show an interest in after-school activities.
  5. Willing to be invested in the lives of the students at McBain Schools
Qualifications
  1. Must be certified in the State of Michigan for grades 6-12 ELA (additional endorsements preferred.)
  2. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
  3. Ability and willingness to work well with staff, parents, and students.
  4. Must be willing to receive additional training to improve job skills.
  5. Must demonstrate competency in the classroom.
  6. Must satisfactorily pass:
    1. Law enforcement background checks with fingerprinting.
    2. Personal and professional reference background check.
  7. Must receive a satisfactory response to P.A. 189 letter (Misconduct Law).
